Peru Projects
Despite being blessed with some excellent natural resources, Peru is one of the most inequitable countries in the world with more than half of the population living in abject poverty and almost 20% living on less than $1 per day.
Poverty is especially bad in some of Peru’s geographically isolated but populous communities, which in turn can be hotspots of physical and sexual violence against children, where there is little access to justice and care for victims.
Our work focusses on addressing this in three hotspot regions - the slums of Manchay near Lima, an urban jungle region called Pucallpa, and an impoverished remote region in the Andes, where we provide a range of interventions.
We partner and work closely with churches, schools, local authorities, national authorities, key players in the justice community, and more.
Our vision is to see Peru free from fear and violence, especially for children.
Some of our interventions
- Specialised care for victims, including trauma counselling.
- Family strengthening initiatives and parenting skills (especially livelihood support).
- Community awareness and violence prevention programmes.
- Special justice reform programmes and training of key players (especially around child-friendly practices).
- Emergency short-term residential care programmes where it is unsafe for the child to stay at home.
- Spiritual programmes and integration into local churches.
